FAQ

CONNECTING TO MYSELF

FAQ - Connecting to myself

the puzzle

How can I reconnect with my emotions and my body?

How it is possible I forget I have a body?

Why is my body not my friend?!

At every moment, I can either take charge or allow my Ego to take control.

When I follow my Ego, I am solely in my head, and my Ego rules my world.
However, when I am fully myself, I have access to other sources of information: my feelings and the sensations in my body.

To reconnect with all parts of myself, all I need to do is recognize that I am more than just a brain.
I shall step out of my head at times and scan through my body—assessing how I feel physically and identifying the emotions I am carrying in the moment. Do I, for instance, need to stretch to release physical tension? Take a break?

Leaving my brain and reentering my body is the path to feeling whole.

Most of us have intellectual jobs and are accustomed to thinking. We spend our days heavily relying on our brains, often forgetting that it is just one organ within a larger machine. Unless we take care of the entire machine that keeps us alive, we will not be able to sustain ourselves for long.

We can become so focused on thinking that we neglect the rest of our body. If we continue this pattern over time, our body will eventually remind us of its presence.
Let us acknowledge that it exists and take proper care of it, so it does not need to demand our attention.

Our bodies have limitations. Whether it is due to aging, injury, or disease, we are not eternal.
And yet, our bodies are what make our lives possible. Without them, we do not exist.

The question should therefore not be framed in such terms. It is like asking whether I prefer my right eye or my left eye. Both are essential, and there is no logical reason to favor one over the other.

Similarly, there is no valid reason for our body to be seen as a friend or an enemy.
It is the one and only vehicle we have to navigate through life. It may de defaulting at times, and in other moments it is extraordinary. Fighting with my body is essentially fighting with myself. It is like embarking on a road trip while hating the car I am in—there is no point.

If there are aspects of my body I wish to improve, then let us take action and work with it to make those improvements. Beating myself up, however, is certainly not the solution. Science has shown that stress contributes to a shorter lifespan, so there is no need to add to it by hating my body.

I can wish as much as I want in my mind for a different body, but that will not change reality. Instead, I can take actions to change what is possible. Make the most of what I have. Treat my body with kindness and take it one day at a time.
